Project B03 (2012–2020)

Imaginatio. Knowing about Imaginative Visions. Theories of Mental Imagery in Medieval Philosophy and Theology

Taking the notion of imaginatio as its starting point, the project will pursue two lines of investigation: On the one hand deals with medieval appropriations of antique doctrines of the soul. These are analysed both with regard to imagination as the capability of visualisation and to rationales of imaginative knowledge. On the other hand the project aims at showing that imaginatio, here: capability of visualising the past as well as the future, is at the heart of pre-modern conceptions of eschatological universal history and theology of history.

A list of publications and events organized by the project can be accessed on the German CRC 980 website.
