Objects in Transfer – Concepts for the Museographical Display of Transfer Processes between the Near East and Europe during the Pre-modern Period

The transfer project investigates processes of knowledge-transfer between the Near East and Europe in the pre-modern era and pursues the aim of communicating these processes to museum audiences. The research focus lies on the collection of the cooperating Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin, where transfer-processes will be visualized through various strategies of museographical display. Through its focus on transcultural transfer the project aims to undermine conceptions of “Islamic Art” as an isolated cultural entity.
